Pink Floyd

Pinkney Anderson is born in Laurens, South Carolina, USA. Under the name Pink Anderson he will enjoy a long career, and will record for Prestige-Bluesville in the 1960s. Rock band Pink Floyd will take the first half of their name from him, and the second half from another bluesman, Floyd Council.
The compilation album Johnny's Greatest Hits by Johnny Mathis, becomes the first greatest hits LP to enter the Billboard Albums Chart in the USA, where it will remain for almost nine and a half years. This record will not be broken until 1982 when it is overtaken by Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon.
Geoff Mott And The Mottoes play together for the first time in Cambridge, UK. The band will soon split up but one member, Syd Barrett, will go on to form Pink Floyd.
The Beatles release their debut album, Please Please Me, in the UK.
