Music hall entertainer Jack Judge plays at The Grand Theatre, Stalybridge, Manchester, UK. As he leaves the Newmarket Inn with friends around
midnight, Jack takes on a challenge to write a fresh song and sing
it on stage the next night. If he succeeds he will win five
shillings which, at that time, would have purchased a bottle of
whiskey and over 70 cigarettes.To meet the bet, he composes the song It's
A Long Way To Tipperary, and performs it at The Grand the next
night.
