Louis 'Moondog' Hardin is born in Marysville, Kansas, USA. Hardin will begin his musical career as a percussionist in his high school band, losing his sight in 1929 when a dynamite cap explodes in his hands. Following the accident, Hardin attends the Iowa School For The Blind and the Missouri School For The Blind, where he studies stringed instruments, organ and harmony. He also learns to compose in braille. In later years, using the name Moondog, he will become an innovative jazz/avant-garde composer, instrument maker and recording artist, familiar and much-loved on the streets of New York City, where he performed dressed in bizarre Viking garb.
