Christopher
Latham Sholes of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, receives a patent
for an invention he calls the "Type-Writer." It will be developed
into the first practical typewriter with the QWERTY keyboard still in use today. Although songs with lyrics
about typewriters are few and far between, the device has inspired
many musical compositions, the best-known being The Typewriter
(1950) for orchestra and typewriter, by composer Leroy Anderson.
There's also Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (2000) by Kid Koala feat Money
Mark, and let's not forget the glorious Boston Typewriter
Orchestra.
