The three-day long Great Escape Festival begins in Brighton, UK. Acts appearing at this year's festival include The Handsome Family, Ohbijou, Dan Auerbach, Noah And The Whale and Gang Of Four.
A report published by the British Culture, Media and Sport Committee, recommends that the controversial Form 696, used by police forces to assess risks of violence at gigs, should be scrapped. The report concludes that Form 696 "imposes unreasonable conditions on events and that it should be scrapped". Since its introduction in 2008 the form has been criticised as racist in its effect, because it appears to specifically target black and Asian musics including Grime and Hip-hop.

The NS+I Classical Brit Awards 2009 take place at the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK, hosted by Myleene Klass. Among the winners are The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, who win album of the year for Spirit of the Glen: Journey, which was recorded in Basra during the regiment's tour of duty.
