Artie Shaw And His Orchestra record Deep Purple for Bluebird Records in New York City, USA. There are no less than five hit versions of the song in this year, and it will chart again in 1949 for Paul Weston And His Orchestra, and in 1963 for Nino Tempo And April Stevens. The song will also inspire one of the first heavy rock bands to take the name Deep Purple.
