Dr. E Elliott Rawlins, writing in the New York Amsterdam News, states that "music may overstimulate, confuse and finally paralyze the thinking and reasoning center of the brain and leave you intoxicated and drugged. This latter effect is the predominating result of jazz music. In these days of prohibition, it frequently takes the place of whiskey, wine and beer."
