Kathy Etchingham (girlfriend) : He did write The Wind Cries Mary overnight, because that was the result of all the rows we had. All the incidents in it were what happened: I smashed plates on the floor, he swept them up. He locked me in the bathroom for absolutely ages and wouldn’t let me out. He went out and left me locked in the bloody bathroom. Eventually Chas’s girlfriend Lotte let me out. I stormed outside and Jimi was sitting there in his black cloak. I ran out to get a taxi and was standing under the traffic lights, and I had red hair and a red dress. I went back after I’d cooled down and he’d already written it. It was one hell of a barney.
Jimi Hendrix : …The Wind Cries Mary is representing more than one person. And, like, she’s the one that really comes around.
