Mary Bell is convicted of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, at Newcastle Assizes, Newcastle, UK. At the age of ten, she had strangled four-year-old Martin Brown in a derelict house and, just two months later, took part in the death by strangling of three-year-old Brian Howe.
