Powerful promoter Bill Graham offers Bruce Springsteen's group Steel Mill a $1,000 recording contract after they make a three song demo at his Fillmore Recording Studio in San Francisco, California, USA. They turn it down.

Nils Lofgren : Bruce and I were on the same circuit, in the same studios. We did an audition with (Lofgren’s band) Grin and Steel Mill in 1970 with Bill Graham out in San Francisco, trying to get an opening job. We ran into each other.
