Fact #90902

When:

Short story:

The Kings Of Leon abandon a live show at The Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, St. Louis, Missouri, USA, when a flock of pigeons persistently bombards the band with bird-droppings.

Full article:

Ivan Kushlik (tour manager, Kings Of Leon) : You should have seen it. Pigeon excrement is toxic, so it was a dangerous thing to have happen. We were playing a big shed, a semi-outdoor amphitheatre. It was the first show of the year at that venue, and the venue owners had not brought anyone to clear the roof of the pigeons, hundreds of them, that had been nesting in the roof over the winter.

So when the band started to play, the noise and vibrations meant that hundreds of baby pigeons above their heads started to literally shit themselves. The only way the pigeons could get out was fly down through the lighting rig to reach the open air.

We knew it was a possibility before we went on, but the band decided to go on and try to deliver a set for the people, but when you have poisonous pigeon shit running down your cheeks towards your mouth, it's impossible to concentrate on doing a show.

We re-scheduled the show, everyone's tickets were valid, and we went back six weeks later and played a great show. I've been doing my job for thirty years, and I've encountered almost everything that can happen at a live gig, but I've never seen anything like that, before or since.
