Hilly Kristal (entrepreneur) : I started something with my partner Ron Delsener, which was the idea of putting on concerts in Central Park. We started the Central Park Music Festival in 1966 and, at the same time, we started my own club, Hilly's, on 9th Street, which was a bit of a mess because it was too much to take on at once.

We had the festival sponsored by Rheingold Beer, and they were doing commercials for us. It was folk, jazz, pop, rock, every day something else from Johnny Mathis to Herbie Mann. And every Sunday, we would have a Puerto Rican day, an Israeli day, a Greek day, so it was always a different nationality.

Unfortunately, Ron Delsener ended up taking over. He screwed me out of this thing, because my club was going into debt so I needed money, and he got a lawyer to get me out so he could take over. Even after I sold out my share of the festival, I still owed maybe $70,000 to $80,000.
