Lou Christie : When we taped it, no-one knew what we were doing, except that we worked on enthusiasm and feeling.

As a result of the song being a hit I was booked sight unseen for a tour of the south, and they thought I was a black girl. It was an all-black show and, when I showed up on the first day of rehearsal, they all got hysterical.

But I stuck to it and did the whole tour despite the problems created in some cities. It was the first time I ever walked on stage and sang with a band.
