Ellie Greenwich (songwriter) : I was sleeping and Jeff (songwriting partner Jeff Barry] called me and said that Bert had had a heart attack, and it was fatal. And I said, 'Well, how is he?' I mean, it didn't even connect. 'Ellie, he's dead.' And I just said, 'I can't talk now…' I was, like, hysterical.
