John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) : I says, 'Oh yeah, Who's he gonna have sing for him?' But he shocked everybody. It came out really cool.

He wasn't a very good singer in the '60s. It was always comical: 'Yeah, Jackson's gonna sing?' But he took singing lessons. He was like the first guy that anybody knew [to do that]. His lyrics were so complicated, his chord changes were new. His singing caught up to his other talents.
