On today's episode of controversial deejay Alan Freed's live ABC TV show The Big Beat, black vocalist Frankie Lymon, of Frankie Lymon And The Teenagers, is seen dancing with a white teenage girl while performing. The incident causes a scandal, particularly among Southern TV station owners, and The Big Beat will subsequently be cancelled. Also on the show on this day are Chuck Berry and Bobby Darin.
