When:
Short story:
The enduringly popular song Happy Birthday To You is published for the first time in a songbook edited by Robert H. Coleman. It is based on Good Morning To You, a song written in 1893 by sisters Mildred J. Hill and Patty Smith Hill. It is thought that Patty Hill suggested changing the lyric to Happy Birthday in a cabin on Kenwood Hill in Louisville, Kentucky. Said to be the most widely recognised song in the English language, it was still producing annual royalties of over $2m in 2008.
