Norman Weiss (US booking agent) : It took about as much planning as the invasion of Normandy. Millions and millions of dollars must have changed hands. It would be impossible to work out what it all cost, from The Beatles' fees down to all the hot dogs sold and films used up. We could easily have charged three times the price and still sold out, but Brian said it was unfair to the fans. We had it written into all contracts, what the prices had to be. We dictated all the contracts, stating what the terms had to be. Every promoter agreed, thankful to be putting them on.

Jackie De Shannon : A lot of people wanted to do the tour. I was with a record company, Liberty, at the time and Brian Epstein, their manager, and the manager of our record company were very close and I had expressed a great desire to go on tour. And I was very lucky to be chosen.

Larry Kane (journalist) : At the beginning of the tour the security was quite lax. You could get a glimpse of The Beatles if you hung outside the hotel or at the back entrance of the venue.

Jan Errico (fan) : They were staying at the Hilton Hotel. My girlfriend Karen's father had connections. He knew when they were going to be there. So all my girlfriends and I decided we were going to get a room at The Hilton that night.

Karen and I started riding the elevators to see what we could see. All the elevators were jam-packed with crazed girls trying to get a glimpse of The Beatles. We got into another elevator and this time it had only two guys in it, and they both had Englsih accents.

Fuinally, I ask them, 'Excuse me, are you with The Beatles?' And they said yes, that they were Malcolm Evans and Neil Aspinall, and they were The Beatles road managers. So I tell them, 'Look, we won't scream or cause a scene but please can we meet them?' And they said, 'Sure.' I thought I was gonna die.

There were security guards everywhere
