Fact #51882

Short story:

Teenager Raymond Jones asks Brian Epstein of NEMS record store in Liverpool, UK, for the German recording of My Bonnie by The Beatles. Epstein has none in stock, but resolves to find out more about the group. In due course, he will become their manager. (N.B. This story was told by Epstein himself, but is widely believed to have been a fabrication).

Full article:

Clive Epstein (brother of Brian Epstein) : I think the music industry, and everything that went with it, was something Brian stumbled across. I don’t think he was actually looking for that type of activity. He more or less thought, Here’s an area I’ve never considered before; maybe it’s something I could dabble with. He had a reasonable income from the family business, and of course a little more income was always great. Although Brian never envisioned it turning out like it did, I think the idea of an extra activity, which at the same time supplemented his income, interested him.
