Fact #42350
When:
Short story:
The Rolling Stones play at The Waldbuhne, West Berlin, Germany, Europe, supported by Nena. During their set, Nena's guitarist Carlo Karges notices that balloons are being released. As he watches the balloons he begins speculating that, if they floated over the Berlin Wall into the Soviet sector, they might be misinterpreted by RADAR installations as incoming bomber planes and might even trigger a war. He is then inspired to write the international hit song 99 Red Balloons [originally 99 Luftballons].
