Fact #42312
When:
Short story:
In Abbey Road Studios, London, UK, George
Harrison of The
Beatles records one of the most extraordinary guitar sequences
of the period on the song I'm Only
Sleeping. Record producer George Martin plays the rest of the song's musical accompaniment backwards on tape, while
Harrison records his parts [a guitar duet featuring two different
tones, one with and one without fuzz distortion]. When the completed tape is played forwards again, Harrison's guitar duet
becomes reversed, but perfectly integrated with the rest of the track, giving the song a totally unique sound.
