Fact #39200

When:

Short story:

Bob Dylan does some informal recording at Levy's Recording Studio, Bond Street, London, UK, with Eric Clapton, John Mayall, John McVie and Hughie Flint.

Full article:

Tom McGuinness : By all accounts, Dylan was not on the planet when we arrived to do the recording. He played piano, with Hughie Flint on drums and Eric Clapton on guitar. The band relentlessly played If You Gotta Go, Go Now, as a twelve-bar blues, but it collapsed after forty five seconds in complete disarray. On the tape, you hear Dylan say, 'Did you get that?' There's a pause, and you hear Hughie Flint say, 'You've not worked much with bands, have yer, Bob?'

John Mayall : I had first met Eric Clapton when he was playing with The Yardbirds, so we weren't total strangers. Eric had left The Yardbirds basically because, as a band, they couldn't really play the blues, and that's what he wanted to do.
