A new radio station, 102.2 Jazz FM, begins broadcasting in London. Broadcasting to around 15.5m people, the station will experiment with its core playlist over its fifteen year history, incorporating smooth jazz, mainstream jazz, soul, jazz fusion, acid jazz, blues and rhythm and blues. In 1994 102.2 Jazz FM will change its name to JFM to attract listeners put off by the word 'Jazz' in the station's name.
