Maurice Sendak, author of several highly influential and much-loved children's books [perhaps most notably, 1963's Where the Wild Things Are] - dies aged 83 in Danbury Hospital, Danbury, Connecticut, USA, from complications of a stroke. Sendak's life and work was the inspiration for numerous songs, including Where The Wild Things Are by Metallica [1997] and Where The Wild Things Are by Patrick Watson [2009].
