Billy Hatton (The Fourmost] : Just before we started a season at The Palladium he developed cancer. He had growths in his neck and he needed radium treatment, which made him go bald on the back of his head. Before we went on stage, we used to stick his hair down with Sellotape. He improved after treatment, but then he found out that he had leukaemia and he had to go into Chatterbridge Hospital on the Wirral. We had an idea that he was dying and he asked me if he should leave the group. I said yes, and it's the hardest yes I've ever had to say in my life. He died a short while later.
