John Steel [The Animals] : As far as I can remember, that was the tour on which some members of the band encountered LSD for the first time. Our guitarist Hilton Valentine, and Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones were in the back of a panel truck in New York. That's just a van with closed panel sides. That would have been late 65. I wasn't present when it happened. It was probably when we were over there for a tv recording. It always took a week to do something like Ed Sullivan Show or Hullaballoo, because the American Unions had such bizarre rules about exactly how and when things could be done. You'd go one day and stand in a rehearsal room while some technician moved around and pretended to be a camera. Then the dress rehearsal would be another day, and the actual show another day again. So to do one appearance you'd be in New York or Los Angeles for a week at a time, which was great.
