When:

Short story:

A package tour featuring The Everly Brothers, Bo Diddley, Little Richard, The Rolling Stones and Mickie Most plays at The Odeon, Newcastle, England, UK, Europe. A local band called The Alan Price Rhythm And Blues Quintet attends the show. Afterwards, Mickie Most goes to the Club A Go Go and sees The Alan Price Rhythm And Blues Quintet which will eventually evolve into The Animals.

Full article:

Peter Grant [later to become manager of Led Zeppelin] : I was working for Don Arden from whom I learnt a lot, and he brought Bo Diddley over here. I was his tour manager and the schedule took us to Newcastle.

John Steel [The Animals] : We went along to see The Everlys as a band, all together. Someone had fixed the tickets for us. But we were really there to see Bo Diddley, who was great. We saw The Stones, of course, and it was nice to hear some r'n'b coming out, but they weren't really black enough for us.

The Everly Brothers were topping the bill, but we had to go off and play at the Club A Gogo. So, just before they came on, we all got up in a line and walked out. It must have looked terrible - as if we'd deliberately staged a public protest against pop music or something. It wasn't true - we liked the Everlys.
