Nick Richards (fan) : I went over on a ferry. There were an awful lot of small boats, fishermen whatever, doing a bit of part-time. According to British Rail ferries, in three days there were well over a quarter of a million people went over to the island on the ferries. There were probably just as many went over in small boats, light aircraft, helicopters, just as long as they could get there. There were people as far as the eye could see, it was unbelievable. I got there in my beaten up 1100.

Vic Churchill (fan) : There were lots of people walking to the site. It was like a rush hour.

Bob Craig (American fan) : I dumped my tape recorder for weight. For food it was the fish and chip stands. It was not incredible food, and the toilets were just a toilet seat over a hole in the ground. It was pretty bad.

Nick Richards : A gang of five or six of us shared a tent. I think it was a borrowed tent with five or six of us squashed into it like sardines, which is why one of the guys slept outside to try to be clever. He got drenched. We did all kinds of crazy things. At one point we warmed up beans with a tripod made of three bean tins and a couple of candles underneath. Total amateurs.

Vic Churchill : The food was mainly hot dogs and stuff, rice and vegetables. At night, I remember walking around the crowd and seeing campfires and hippies looking cool and having an amazing time. Sitting in a field, resting with my hands behind me, I'd say sorry if somebody accidentally trod on them.
