Gary Brooker [The Paramounts/Procol Harum] : The Beatles were really great on stage. I saw them a few times. I went to see them when they came to Southend. Not that I was a huge fan, but I'd go to see whoever was on in Southend. I saw them and Gerry And The Pacemakers on the same bill. I didn't really like The Beatles records at that time but on stage you particularly noticed John Lennon as a singer. They were doing some covers of American r'n'b very very well, really good harmonies.
