Full article:

Steve Stills : When he did the session with me for Old Times, Good Times, Jimi and I had been sort of farting around all over London, checking out different night clubs and alternately playing either really magnificent or stinking up the joint. I had this solo album going, so I said “Why don’t you come down?” I had the song and he did an overdub. It didn’t really take long. When Jimi came up with that solo, we just wandered around the studio, plugging into different amplifiers and boxes, trying to find something groovy. It was his suggestion that we do something jazzy with that solo. He ended up playing right through the console, using a Fairchild limiter. He said that if the guitar sound got too big, it would cover up the organ part. He was right.
