Songwriter Irving Berlin marries Comstock Lode heiress Ellin Mackay at City Hall, New York City, USA. Berlin presents her with his song Always as a wedding gift. She will be disinherited by her father, Clarence Mackay, but the marriage will prove to be a happy one and will last until her death in 1988.
