Full article:

Dave Gregory (guitarist, XTC) : The first major band I ever saw live was The Who during the Magic Bus tour, supported by The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, at Colston Hall in Bristol. Arthur Brown was every bit as good as The Who. After they'd finished, The Who didn't go on stage for quite a long while. Even so, it was a great time to have seen The Who because Townshend hadn't yet written Tommy. It was a parade of those great early Who hits, and Townshend was also doing his mini rock opera, Ivor The Engine Driver, and telling the story behind it, much to Keith Moon's frustration. "Gerronwivit!" he was shouting from behind his drums.

They were a motley-looking crew, especially Daltrey with his perm and his plaid, tasselled poncho. They looked like they'd all been to different tailors, but they were very exciting. At the age of sixteen that was such a thrill.
