Dave Pegg : We were rehearsing for a month, and it was the pre-gig rehearsal … I was a gibbering lunatic; I couldn’t sing, I could hardly talk … nobody was singing. I had a list of all the numbers, what key they were in, so I had my bit together. But I thought, ‘They can’t all be instrumentals!’
Richard Thompson : There were five good people, all jolly good pals, good chemistry … I think everyone could sing, but we all lacked confidence. I think, really, we should have had a singer in.
Dave Pegg : So they tossed a coin to see who was going to sing, and it was down to Swarb (Dave Swarbrick, fiddler) and Richard (Thompson, guitarist).
