Joe Bonamassa : Man this really hurts ... One of the greatest of all time and a real genius and gentleman.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd : Just heard a Louisiana legend has passed. Dr John was a friend and an inspiration to me. I've never met another man quite like him. When a person so unique leaves us, it creates a void that will never be filled.

Ellen De Generes : There was no other performer like Dr. John, and there never will be.

Jerry Dammers (The Specials) : I’ve rarely felt quite so sad about a musician dying, he was my hero, one of the all time great musicians from America’s all time great musical city New Orleans. His hands reached back into such deep history and culture, he’s a musical friend to anyone who can take the time to listen. He came to London in the eighties to kick his addiction to heroin, I saw him at the Half Moon in Putney and there was only a small crowd of people there , but he got himself back together , cleaned up and returned to venues worthy of him and made some more great albums.

I question when some critics saw Dr John as being a persona, I was lucky enough to meet him a couple of times and that was him, the real deal, the voodoo and other stuff was his real culture : as he sang himself, “the last of the best”.
