Australian soldier Peter Hines is killed when he steps on a landmine at Long Tan during the Vietnam War. This, and other experiences of Australian soldiers in Vietnam, will inspire the song I Was Only 19 by Redgum, which will top the Australian Singles chart in 1983. (In the song, Peter Hines name is changed to Frankie out of respect for his memory.)
