Folk music's elder statesman Pete Seeger is found guilty of contempt of Congress, in relation to his testimony to the Committee on Un-American Activities of the House of Representatives in Washington DC, USA - popularly known as the McCarthyite Communist Witch Hunt. Seeger is sentenced to ten concurrent one-year terms in prison, but immediately lodges an appeal
