Thomas Johansson (promoter) : I’d just done a gig with them in a little club in Stockholm, four o’clock in the afternoon, and I did a live tv with them at 9 o’clock that same day, and then a rock’n’roll club at 11 o’clock the same night. They were going up to Salen and their manager Paul McGuinness called me and said they needed, you know, I funded the fare and then they needed a snare drum and some other things. It was the first time they’d come here and then they asked if I could help, and it was the start for me of a long, great relationship with four young men who went on to become the biggest rock band in the world.

Paul McGuinness (manager, U2) : It’s always nerve-wracking in the middle of a tour to leave the itinerary and go off into the countryside, but I remember we had to fly to the north of Sweden to get the snowy conditions and the horses we wanted for the New Year’s Day video, and Thomas made the introductions to the people who supplied the horses. It turned out to be a very good video.
