Eleanor Kekoaohiwaikalani Wright Prendergast (aka Ellen Prendergast) dies in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. She was a respected poet best-known for having written the patriotic song Kaulana Nā Pua (literally, "Famous are the flowers") in 1893 for members of the Royal Hawaiian Band who protested the overthrow of Queen Liliʻuokalani and the Hawaiian Kingdom.
