Fact #168576
When:
Short story:
The Temptations appear at the Valley Forge Music Fair in Pennsylvania, USA, without baritone David Ruffin . Ruffin has been fired by Motown Records because of his desire to change the Tempts' image from 'suits, ties and patent shoes' and go into 'a deep soul bag' - a direction that the group ends up following later when producer Norman Whitfield steps in. Ruffin's place in the quintet is taken by Dennis Edwards, formerly of The Contours, and Motown rehires Ruffin as a solo artist.
