Fact #168522
When:
Short story:
The Seekers announce that they will split at the end of the week, with all but lead vocalist Judith Durham giving up performing completely.
Full article:
Eddie Jarrett (manager, The Seekers) : The boys had always expected that Judith would branch out as a solo singer, a move which is inevitable. The others want to do things on their own, they are all adult, intelligent people.
Judith Durham (lead vocalist, The Seekers) : When we split up, I gave each of the boys a little horseshoe and I said I hoped they would be lucky in whatever they did. I thought they would all go off and find themselves like I did, but the group was their life.
That was the big difference between them and me. I had only ever seen it as a temporary thing, a detour from my own career, but it was their dream and I was helping them to fulfil that dream.
