Fact #168393

When:

Short story:

Elvis Presley is recording his tv comeback special, Elvis, in NBC Studio 4, Burbank, California, USA.

Full article:

DJ Fontana (Presley's drummer) : The jam sessions were fun. There was no written dialogue that Elvis had to do or a list of tunes for him to do, except one, he had to do a Christmas song. He had a ball. We all had a good time, it was really fun.

Everybody was cutting up and acting the fool like we always used to do anyhow, just sitting around the room talking. That was a lot of fun. It was probably one of the better shows I've seen.

Tony Bramwell (Beatles' aide) : I met Elvis the day he did the NBC come-back. I was in Los Angeles with Paul McCartney. I don't know where Paul was, he must have been in the bungalow. (Actually, he was in London, recording with The Beatles] I was just loitering in the lobby of the Beverly Hills Hotel, and Colonel Parker came up to me and said, "Elvis is making his come-back tonight at the NBC theatre," and gave me two tickets. Elvis was standing there and said, "Pleased to see you again, bring Paul." Anyway Paul didn't want to go, so we didn't bother, and when I got back to England, I gave my tickets to the journalist Ray Connolly who's an absolute Elvis freak. So he ended up with a pair of unused Elvis comeback tickets - probably the only pair.
