Full article:

Scott Wheeler (reviewer, The Enterprise) : Aerosmith’s concert at Great Woods Wednesday night - the first of three sold-out shows - was a brilliantly conceived, flawlessly executed extravaganza of crisply mixed sound and state-of-the-art lighting effects that showcased each member’s talent to maximum advantage and set a new standard of professionalism for rock and roll shows everywhere.

Their meticulously paced, 16-song set, which lasted for an hour and 45 minutes, included virtually all of the group’s hits, ranging from their 1974 classic Dream On - featuring lead singer Steven Tyler on keyboard synthesizer - to their current hits Angel and Permanent Vacation, as well as a powerful version of the vintage Rufus Thomas hit Walking The Dog.

The 40-year-old Tyler has never been in better form vocally or athletically. He was in constant motion throughout the show, prancing about the stage with exquisitely controlled abandon or swinging his microphone stand about in the air with the easy grace of an expert baton twirler.

Meanwhile guitarist Joe Perry coaxed massive surges of sound from his stack of Marshall amps with calm, practiced finesse. Guitarist Brad Whitford worked his corner of the stage contentedly, with ample opportunity to demonstrate his own, often underrated command of his instrument, while bassist Tom Hamilton stood at his side, radiating satisfaction as he played.

But it was drummer Joey Kramer who stole the show with a solo drum spot in which he demonstrated his remarkable adeptness with his new invention, the Aerosticks, a pair of customized drumsticks connected to two wireless units on a belt pack and controlled by an electronic sampling unit offstage.
