Mick Jones : That was a big day (the day when he was sacked by the others). It was one of the very few occasions where I was first to arrive. Usually I’m late, so I thought, ‘Sod this,’ and I went to the bookshop up the road.
When I came back everybody was there and there was a terrible atmosphere – but by that time we’d got so fed up with each other our communication level was pretty much down to grunting at the floor.

They dropped the bombshell, and I was outraged, packed my guitar and stormed out – ‘All right, if that’s the way you want it! See you later!’ I was in a state of shock that lasted for months.
I put Michael Caine glasses on, dyed my hair blonde and grew a beard for a bit. We all lived in the same area, and I didn’t want to see people, so I was trying to be in disguise.
