When:

Short story:

Full article:

Don Merlino (audience) : The Camden County Music Fair was visited by several up-and-coming rock acts, such as Cream and Hendrix. It held about 300 to 400 people. My ticket price was $5.50 and I sat front row dead centre, about 20 feet in front of the band. Cream was my first concert, and I was completely derailed for the rest of my life. Clapton looked 20 feet tall in a red velvet jacket and blue trousers.

The band came out of the wings to enter the stage and Clapton walked by me and he bashed my elbow with his guitar and stopped to make sure I was all right. He apologised profusely and then shook my hand before going on stage. For years I had to prove that it was hours of dedicated practice, and not my brush with Clapton that gave me an edge on the other guitarists in the neighbourhood.
