Robert Smith (The Cure) : We played Charlotte Sometimes through for the first time when we went into the studio to record it. The first take was perfect - although none of us told the others what to play at all. The B-side, though, Splintered in Her Head, was pieced together.

Robert Smith : It’s kind of a pre-cursor to Pornography in that way, because I started to get interested in rhythms…
Simon Gallup : For some reason, we were all staying at the Fiction Records’ office. It was in between doing the albums Faith and Pornography, and we went to see (producer, Mike) Hedges in his studio, The Playground, and we did a song that went to the beat that became Splintered In her Head,
Robert Smith : It was called Horse Racing. We turned it into Splintered In her Head.
But again, Splintered was intended to complement Charlotte Sometimes, because it had the same kind of vibe, it was done on the same night.
