Fact #162882

When:

Short story:

The Beach Boys, Mike Oldfield, Santana, Elkie Brooks, Lindisfarne and The Blues Band play at Knebworth 80 Festival, Knebworth, England, UK, Europe.

Full article:

Chrissie Lytton Cobbold (owner, Knebworth House) : Carlos Santana came up to the house before the concert. I took him around the house, and he was very enthusiastic about everything. We were in the Picture Gallery when he spied my guitar (£19 from Boots the Chemist) and he sat on the sofa with Rosina, my eight year old daughter, and played for her. It was a wonderful moment and I have treasured the guitar ever since.

Johnny Black (press officer, CBS Records) : The Beach Boys played well that day, but what made it extra special for me was that halfway through their set, Carl Wilson spotted me in the audience and yelled out, ‘Hi there Johnny!” A wonderful little moment of fame by association.

I had been to see them in Europe before they came to the UK, and just as they had done in Europe, they sang Happy Birthday to Brian Wilson on stage. This was clearly a nightly ritual. The sad thing was that each time they did it, Brian was singing along, as if he wasn’t really sure whose birthday it was supposed to be.
