Fact #161762

When:

Short story:

The Cure play on UK tv show Top Of The Pops for the first time, performing their new single, A Forest.

Full article:

Robert Smith (The Cure) : A Forest didn’t really get radio play, but it went into the chart high enough on the week of release that we got the spot on Top Of The Pops. They stuck Lol at the front, and he insisted on doing his robot drumming action, I think he thought he was in Kraftwerk.

I hated Top Of The Pops because I was getting to this phase where I was really anti everything like that, anti pop. I didn’t want The Cure to be a pop band.

I just couldn’t believe how boring it was being on it. You know the people who go, ‘whoop whoop’? I really hate them. I have to be physically restrained sometimes.
