Elton John : We (Elton and Renate Blauel) had a great time some of the time, but I was living a lie. I'm a gay man. What can I tell you? We had great sex. We did have great sex, but in the end I was just living a lie, and I started doing more drugs because I couldn't face the fact that I didn't have the courage to tell her I was living a lie.

There had to be a time period, and it was her insistence that she didn't want to see me anymore so she could build a new life, and I understood that.

Laurent Garnier (deejay) : One of the best nights I’ve had was when I DJ’ed for Elton John at his 40th birthday party, at the time when Kraze’s The Party was out. He wanted me to play 70’s stuff for the roadies and that, and House music for him. I asked for the sound system and he said, ‘You can get what you want.’ So I had the best sound system, and everybody was there – Tina Turner, Jean Michel Jarre and just so many people. That was a good night.
