Robert Smith (The Cure) : For every album we do, I assemble a bunch of songs that have something that I'm trying to capture. When we were recording Seventeen Seconds, I would listen over and over to a tape with four songs: Jimi Hendrix' All Along The Watchtower from Live At The Isle of Wight, Nick Drake's Fruit Tree, Van Morrison's Madame George from Astral Weeks, and the Khachaturian ballet piece that's on the 2001 Soundtrack. I was trying to get a combination of all the things I liked about those four things, even though they were so completely disparate.
