The attempt goes disastrously wrong when a shootout erupts, leaving four men dead, including both Jackson and Judge Haley. The incident will propel Angela Davis, owner of the weapons used by Jackson, to national infamy because of media coverage around the manhunt launched to find her. As a political activist, academic and author, Davis attracted much sympathy, and her story will inspire The Rolling Stones' song Sweet Black Angel (1972), and the John Lennon/Yoko Ono song Angela (1972).
